“HOLDING TIME”  (3)

© By Bbeyond

In a first of its kind anywhere in the UK and Ireland, internationally renowned Belfast-based performance art organisation, Bbeyond, performed in the Great Hall of Stormont Parliament Building.

As the counting began for both local elections and European Parliamentary elections, a group of approx. twenty artists gathered at the heart of the political decision- making setting in Northern Ireland, to create a ‘live’ art action, called “Holding Time” (3).

This group-cohered work ‘married’ dignity and empathy, with immersive, reflective action, intending to resonate with ‘mutuality’ of inter-responsibility, co-operation and care, re issues of political/ social/ cultural ‘splits’ in separatist identity.

“Holding Time” (3) provided one ‘live’, visual metaphor for how to overcome unresolved ‘root’ causes which precipitated the Troubles (in the first place) but which have not been addressed yet, in this so-called ‘post’ Troubles period (as oppositional, binary, ‘either/or’ thinking is no substitute for ‘holism’).

Artists Involved: Marilyn Arsem, Sandra Breathnach, Jayne Cherry, Brian Connolly, Christoff Gillen, Hilary Gilligan, Jennifer Hanley, Tony Hill, Paul King, James King, Alastair MacLennan, Midori Mitamura, Siobhan Mullen Wolfe-Murphy, Caroline Murphy, Hugh O’Donnell, Brian Patterson, Karine Talec, Elvira Santamaria Torres…and others.
