The Belfast Flags of Hope was an art project in memory of murdered teenager Tomas Devlin. Flag flying is a contentious act in a divided community. I presented people with the blank flag canvas format and asked them to use their creativity to present their hope for a brighter future. The flags were flown along the Belfast ‘Peace Wall’, a symbolic site of division. This project used flags to bring communities together as opposed to the normal practice of enhancing division.
