Angel

Directed by Neil Jordan, Written by Neil Jordan, Produced by John Boorman

Danny (Stephen Rea) is a saxophonist with a traveling band. After a gig, he witnesses the murder of the band’s manager and a deaf mute girl. Questioned by the police, he remembers only the orthopedic shoes of the killers’ leader. He tries to discover why they were killed but finds only more questions, which resonate with the wider context of the political and social situation in Northern Ireland. Danny soon becomes obsessed with tracking down the murderers and avenging the killings, but in doing so he ruins his relationship with the singer in the band, and stands on the brink of becoming a murderer himself.

The films is an exploration of political murder in Northern Ireland. It was one of the first films to be commissioned by Channel 4.
